Foundation Sets Rob's Sights On New ChallengeBookmark and Share

Salford City Reds Foundation is proud of its community projects and extreamely pleased to hear when people who have engaged with us go on to develop themselves further. The Foundation has recently started its current cohort of students on its NVQ apprentership in Rugby League Coaching run in conjunction with Salford City College. The course is still taking on students but places are limited and filling up fast.

Rob Foxley from Irlam was one of the first to graduate from the course and has benefitted greatly from taking part. Throughout the course Rob completed a coaching qualification, HSE approved First Aid certificate as well as recieving health and safety and child protection training. The NVQ Level 2 course is delivered by Salford City Reds Foundation staff at Salford City Stadium, where participants effectively become active team members of the foundation. Participants are challenged to use skill learned during the course by helping deliver the foundations activities to the community under the supervision of fully qualified members of staff.

Since graduating Rob, who was quite shy, has found his confidence and self esteem have rocketed. Rob said “ the course was really enjoyable and I loved working at the new stadium with all the staff. The NVQ has definitely helped boost my confidence and self esteem.” He has now followed his dream of being a Rugby League Official and is a fully qualified referee who is active in the Manchester and District Referees Society. Rob has recently officiated in the North West Champion schools tournament where he was thrilled to receive words of wisdom and encouragement from one of his hero’s, Super League referee Steve Ganson.

Neil Blackburn, Salford City Reds Foundation Project Manager and NVQ tutor stated “Rob was a model student and a great success story to come from one of our highly popular educational programmes, it is great to see him building upon the great work he did with us”
