Reds and Bupa Team Up For Salford’s Kids

Salford City Reds Foundation has teamed up with international healthcare group Bupa to deliver health based activities to local schools in the City of Salford.

Designed to encourage children to live healthier lives the project is a pilot scheme where pupils will learn about healthy eating, sport and the benefits of exercise. Saint Theresa’s primary school in Irlam will be the first to participate in the new programme. The Reds Foundation will provide resources from its ‘Tackle Health’ project.

In May 2011 Bupa launched the Global Challenge, which aimed to get more than 35,000 people moving across the globe during June to raise awareness of the benefits of exercise in helping to reduce the risk of developing long term diseases.

Louise Hanlon, Community Connections Consultant, Bupa Health and Wellbeing said:

“The Bupa Global Challenge is all about getting people moving through a range of activities including dancing, walking and sports. We are delighted to partner with the Salford City Reds Foundation to bring this positive action to local school children. As a healthcare group that has been a large employer in Salford for over 20 years, we are keen to help improve the health of people in the area.”

From 2012, in the next stage of the programme, Bupa employees will volunteer in local schools to help children get moving and present positive ways to eat healthily through the Activ-Eat programme, highlighting the importance of eating five portions of fruit and vegetables each day.

Reds Foundation, Community and Business Development Manager Mark Brocklehurst, said:

“The Foundation prides itself on the work it carries out within the community and we are delighted be working alongside Bupa in the delivery of the ‘Tackle Health’ project.

“Working with such high profile organizations as Bupa greatly raises our profile and the quality and quantity of out health work.”
