‘Walk the Walk’ with the Reds This Xmas
In celebration of the eagerly anticipated move from The Willows to the new Salford City Stadium, Salford City Reds are delighted to announce ‘The Willows to Barton Christmas Walk’ and ‘Red Future’ Exhibition Match between the Club’s two Academy sides, giving an exciting glimpse in to the up and coming talent on the Club’s books on one thrilling day over the holidays.
Scheduled for Tuesday 27 December the walk will begin at The Willows following the Old Road to Eccles and then Liverpool Road to Barton - a total of 3.4 miles - and the Reds’ Foundation are urging supporters, local residents and partner volunteers to join in and raise a minimum of £25 which will go towards assisting the Foundation in delivering their projects throughout the city.
Reds Foundation, Community and Business Development Manager Mark Brocklehurst, said:
“The transition from The Willows to the new stadium is imminent and the walk is a great way for Reds supporters to be one of the first 1000 people to enter the stadium and see the very first game played there, as well as contributing to the terrific community work carried out by our Foundation at the same time.
“Completing the walk is the only guaranteed way of watching the first ever rugby league to be played on the new hallowed turf at Barton and is set to be an enthralling look into the future as well as consigning you into the history of the Club.”
A landmark event in the development of the new stadium, the walk will be part of the necessary series of ‘ramp-up’ events and involve a final lap of The Willows, followed by walk up to the finishing line at the Salford City Stadium before taking a seat in the new Main Stand to watch ‘Red Future’ as the Under 18’s take on the Under 20’s in the historic first match to be played at the Salford City Stadium.
Salford City Stadium Director James Foley said:
“The time really is upon us now to get rugby league started at Salford City Stadium and we are looking forward with great anticipation and excitement for the arrival of the Reds fans to the new stadium. What better symbolic way to welcome them to the venue than with a walk from the old to the new and then top the day off with a look into the future.”
