Never has there been a more appropriate time to look forward not backwards. The events of last season, while disappointing are behind us now and we must use 2008 as a season to rebuild and restructure while never taking our eye off the rich, exciting future we all have ahead of us at Salford City Reds.

In Shaun McRae we have appointed a top quality coach who has achieved great success at the highest level of our game and we are all sure he can bring that success with him to Salford.

This year we must concentrate on winning back our Super League status. We have the nucleus of what I believe is a very good side, with a blend of experience from the NRL and youth from our own successful Academy. Alan Hunte and Scott Naylor have done a marvelous job bringing the youngsters through and we should now begin to see the benefits of so many of them gaining Super League experience last season.
Everybody at Salford knows how tough 2007 was and I truly hope that you will put that to the back of your mind and join us once again for another season watching, what I believe is the greatest game on earth.

I would urge you, as your Chairman, to try to encourage as many family members and friends as you can to buy a season ticket and get behind your club. Our backroom staff have worked extremely hard to put together what is undoubtedly the best offer in the game and I hope as many of you as possible will take advantage of it.

Coming into a club facing a difficult position more than half way through a season is never ideal, but by the time we kick off the new campaign we will be equipped for an all-out assault on the National League 1 title and a return to Super League.

We have managed to re-sign some of our big name players for this season and will bring in Australian star Craig Stapleton to give us extra firepower up front so will be looking to get out of the blocks quickly at the start of the season.

It is obviously important that we do not just tread water and we build for our bright future and to prepare properly.

It is therefore vital that our fans play their part in getting behind the club, even throughout the winter build-up by buying their season ticket and pledging their allegiance to the cause.

The next few months are the hardest for any rugby league club as finances are tight in the close-season so buying your ticket early really can make a difference.

This club is as much about the people who support it as those that play for it. We may not have had the season everybody expected last year but we must live and learn and get one with the job at hand with the minimum of fuss.

One thing I will promise you is that you will see no lack of effort from the team this season and we hope we can count on your valued and trusted support to help see us through the forthcoming months.
