Smoking Policy

Introduction

It has long been demonstrated that second hand smoke causes damage to health. In light of this the Government has introduced legislation, which will come into effect form 1st July 2007, banning smoking within certain public venue and workplaces. Salford City Reds supports this legislation, and the intended aims to improve health, and will implement a smoke free policy for the stadium, offices and shop so that all employees, supporters and others will not be at risk from harm caused by the inhalation of tobacco smoke.

Purpose

  1. To improve health
  2. To improve awareness of the risks associated with second hand smoke
  3. To protect employees and supporters from second hand smoke
  4. To provide support and encouragement to those who wish to stop smoking

3.   Principle of the Policy

A smoke free environment will help to reduce the risk of disease contracted through the inhalation of second hand smoke. This policy will protect staff and customers and aims to promote a healthier environment for all. We also make a commitment to give assistance to those who need it if they decide to stop smoking.

This policy will apply to all members of staff and Spectators.

Statement

We are a smoke free business and from 1st July 2007 the entire premises and property of Salford City Reds is smoke free. The smoking of any tobacco products will therefore not be permitted on club premises and property. Any breaches of the policy by members of staff will result in disciplinary action and may lead to dismissal. Spectators will be asked to leave the stadium if they are not prepared to abide by the Ground Regulations.

Scope

Smoking will not be allowed anywhere within boundaries of club premises. i.e. smoking will not be allowed once staff and customers have left the public highway and entered club premises, including the car parks. Club property will include vehicles provided to staff by the club.

Ground Regulations

The Ground Regulations have been amended to include a ban on smoking in all parts of the stadium.

Assistance for those who smoke

We recognise that smoking is an addictive behaviour. We are willing to be very supportive to any member of staff who wishes to give up smoking by offering stop smoking information and help anyone who is committed to give up smoking.

All employees – new and old

All employees will be issued with a copy of the policy so that they are made aware of every component, including their own and their manager’s responsibility to support this policy.

9.   Monitoring

This policy will be monitored by Management and during games by Match Day Safety Stewarding Team. Any problems or queries relating to this policy can be put to Management or the Ground Safety Officer on match days.
